Gamping--Gay Camping!

Well, I promise to give a full review of the place on Monday (we will be going home on Sunday evening)! We actually spoke to the owner while we were at the pool\bar, and it turns out that they have one side of the property set up as rentals for weekend camping (which is popular bc they have scheduled bands every weekend and mini "festivals" each month) and the other side is set up as lake-side lots for those inclined to establish a more permant vacation home. SO.... I am going to call him on Monday and see how much a lot costs outright! Anyone interested, just let me know and I will PM you the info! :-D

I haven't been camping in ages. I got lots of stories. Onetime a whole group of us (all gay, umm… about 8 of us) trekked up to the high country in Yosemite to spend a weekend. On the first night there we all laid our sleeping bags out on a granite escarpment overlooking a lake and took doses of LSD and Shrooms. The next 24 hours were VERY interesting. I have pictures somewhere… I'll have to look for them.

Another time a group of us got caught in a thunder/snow storm at 10,000 feet IN JULY. Truly one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. The cold and snow was bad enough but lightening striking and splashing off the granite -- it was like being in a war zone. We ALL though we wuz going to DIE!!!

I absolutely love camping. But I tend to be the rugged outdoors type. The best I could say, why I like it, perhaps your husband is the same way. I like it because it gets you away from the television and all the distractions of day to day life. It forces you to rely on others to stay entertained. I've only ever gone camping with friends, never a boyfriend. But you talk about things, play card games cook and that sort of thing. Also I enjoy hiking and paddling and camping gives me ample opportunity, plus I get to share amazing sights with the people I love. Creating memories to be cherished forever.

But than again I'm very simple. I don't find myself impressed with fancy things, though I can enjoy them. If you tend to be the opposite of me, I can see why you may not care for camping.

It is very kind that you are willing to do something you may not like for somebody you love. Your husband is a lucky man.

I'm in the same boat. I've been camping since I was a baby, literally. I love it for all the reasons you mentioned. You're in the woods, in nature, and the artificial world we are all apart of is escaped, for a brief time.

You sleep in a tent outside, you can hear a symphony of frogs as you drift off to sleep as close to the natural environment as most get in our modern time.

For me camping is truly therapudic. I have no stress, I'm 100% alive and in the moment. All my daily concerns are far away.

I go for hikes in the woods, flip tons of rocks and find snakes and salamanders, swim in random streams or rivers, and go on nightly adventures.

Once it's dark I walk around ponds and catch bullfrogs and snakes. I usually go in if I see a turtle waiting to be picked up.

Their is nothing like it!

In a few months I will be taking my bf camping for the first time, lol. He's excited and would follow me anywhere (as would I for him) but this will be much different then anything he's done.

He's more of an indoors type of guy. More of a fancy hotel with a spa type of guy. Picturing him camping makes me laugh. Especially the way I tend to go full crocodile hunter mode in the woods!

Her [MENTION=21734]reaper[/MENTION] maybe the way to introduce your BF to camping is to start with glamping (glamorous camping.) You get a yurt with a bed, nice linens, and at least a private half bath. There's often a dining room on site or restaurants nearby.

I introduced my BF to camping by making it as comfy as possible. I have a 7 x 16' tent, cotton sheets and a down comforter on self inflating sleeping pads, LED lighting, a 10 x 10' canopy, tables, chairs, rugs, huge ice chests, battery powered blender for daiquiris, etc. He even brings his portable video game system, lol. It takes an entire pickup truck full of gear! But we can go out for a week no problem.

Next time you and your BF go to Florida I'd encourage you to do a backcountry trip in the Everglades. I've rented a canoe and paddled out to remote beaches for camping. Pick a spot where the wind is coming off the ocean and you have no mosquitoes as long as the wind is blowing. You can have a mile long white sand beach all to yourself for days on end. Truly an amazing experience. But you have to have know the tides for the trip in and out so you're not fighting strong currents.

my mom's approach to "camping" is staying overnight at a hotel near the national parks!

my idea of "camping" can include setting up a tent, air mattress, and portable stove! as long as there is a running shower with hot water, I adore camping and visiting the national parks !

Awesome wildlife, that alligator snapper is tiny. Last time I saw one it was the size of a car's tire.

I grew up in the boy scouts and camping was the best. One day out would be nice to drag along a boy friend. Particularly one that has never been.

I also like to camp, have done both tenting and using a small trailer which - while not all pimped out with AC and television - at least made a week or rain tolerable. Nothing like doing a long hike during the day and then having a meal cooked on a fire under the stars.

To me a pop-up camper would be a good compromise for someone who is apprehensive. It feels like a tent because of the canvas and giant screen windows, but you're sleeping on a mattress (of sorts) not on the ground. Some of them have kitchen appliances and even a toilet and shower, but I'd rather hike to the bathrooms or piss in the woods than clean the holding tank.
