[MENTION=20947]MikeW[/MENTION], Contemporary would be any dances that are coming out now, whereas Modern Dance would be what came out in the beginning of and the second half of the 20th century (or, let's say, a little late... the 20s and after that... Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, people like that...)
