Being recognized as gay...

I hate to be the person to burst your bubble by saying this right out loud in public and all, especially since this thread has already gone on for three pages now, but, seriously?

Dude....

I was bored, eating a bowl of lentil soup on an Easter Sunday afternoon here in Berkeley, California, after working out at the gym, was looking at your username and trying to decipher if it was some kind of code for something or other (my mind works in mysterious ways, even to me), and then just decided to google it to see what came up.

Well, your instgram was near the top of the list and after scoping it out, I have to tell ya that anyone who can NOT tell you're gay just by looking at you is either NOT gay themselves or has no gayger counter (as you like to call it) AT ALL.

Don't get me wrong, you're a handsome young man and could PASS in most "straight" (ignorant) company... but among your gay peers -- which I assume is who you're most interested in, right? -- you need not worry. Tongue3

ETA: Oh, and your dog is very cute! Wink

Well, you'd be surprised how many people are surprised (or at least feign surprise) when they find out or I tell them. Social media =/= how I act in person. Usually....

Anyway, once the mods approve the massively long message that I wrote earlier this evening, maybe some light will be shed/questions will be answered/issues will be addressed. Who knows Smile

Are these many surprised people straight or gay?

I know, that random moderation of noobs thing is a pain that goes away once you've gotten 50 posts under your belt. Can't wait!

Well, you made me have to go and look. Yeah, I would know right away.

But now my suggestion stands of just going shirtless, because damn, 20 years ago I would have been all over that!

Oh lord no. No no no no no no no. Not with the way I currently look. Maybe for my 23rd birthday (on the 23rd of July. This is that one year of irony.) But I'm still not sure how this cutting cycle I'm in will turn out, nor do I know how well the bulking cycle (which I'm starting in mid-May) will turn out. Maybe by the time the fall semester starts, I'll be comfortable shirtless, but right now I'm certainly not haha.

So, as a counterpoint to the people saying that "gays will you you're gay," well I'm gay, and so is East and neither of us can tell if other people are gay. So it's plausible, if not probable, that there's a guy or two or more at the rec center who're gay, but also lack a gaydar. So. Yeah.

Ok, well, sure, that's true. I'm sure there are people around me (at work, at the gym, passers by walking down the street, etc.) that *are* gay but I don't get that vibe from them (or w/e). I'm not exactly a flaming queen, myself, and I know *sometimes* people (mostly women) are surprised to learn I'm gay. With men its a bit different because if you're straight chances are you mostly don't give a fuck. On the other hand, if you're a gay man, you're way more likely to be asking this question in your head and looking for 'clues'.

All I'm saying is, based solely on your instagram pix, I would *assume* that you were gay. IRL, if there were some reason I needed to know for sure, I'd look for verification. If you were wearing a gay symbol, that would be all the verification I needed. So, its not like there is any reason to not do that... you should do whatever you feel comfortable with and makes you feel happy! I'm just saying, I don't think this is as big a problem as you're making it out to be! The guys you're interested in -- other gay body builder types -- are not going to have a huge problem figuring you out.

THAT SAID... there ARE gay body builders who DO NOT come across as "gay" at all (and I know this from first hand experience). That is, they come across as Alpha (Psychological and social dominant) males:

Neither you (nor I) am in that category.
