Of the journeys I have made the one to Syria must remain one of the most memorable, especially to the wonderful Graeco/Roman city of Palmyra. But now it is under the contro of the barbaric IS who will in all probability, destroy it.

It would seem that IS wants to go back to the Dark Ages where there will be no culture whatsoever, only their deformed notion of their religion. What hope would a country have ruled by such fanatics? How could a country survive if there were nothing but religion? No trade, no interaction with other countries? I am deeply saddened by what is hapening in Syria but at least I have fond memories of the wonderful people I met when I was there and at least I actually saw Palmyra.
