Commercials You Hate
#11
I don't watch commercials, I have a mute button and generally record stuff before watching it so I can skip the constant push to sell sell sell

The commercial at the moment that I really hate to see is the one where they have people who have lost limbs or have a hole in their throats from severe smoking habits. I feel is too graphic and I don't think it's appropriate to show this on television.

1. Big Pharmo pushing drugs in advertising. Jay brought home a magazine from the clinic with and article about how Pharmo's advertising budgets are really being paid by jacking up health insurance rates on people under 30 who are also getting jacked up for the high priced meds. I'm glad I don't have the magazine handy to quote the figures. It would cause many brains to explode.

2. Law Firms on TV drumming up bodies to sign on with mutli hundred million/billion dollar law suits civil suits. Let's not talk about that. There's a whole other chunk of money that we're paying for in our insurance rates.

I have pretty much given up on TV and have an ad blocker on my web browser so other than when I'm stuck at someone else's house with the TV on I don't see too many of them. But I agree very whole-heartedly with both your statements above. Why the fuck are we telling (non-medically trained) public to go tell their doctor which drugs they should have? "Oh, I hadn't thought of that despite having a degree in medicine!"

And yes there is a special place in hell for ambulance chasers.

Now, if you'll excuse me, according to the ad from Dewey, Cheatum & Howe, I should contact them about something called a vaginal mesh.

*goes to phone*

Hahhahahahahahaha!

When I hear vaginal mesh... I picture some sort of window screen to keep the flies away from it...

Which reminded me of something................

I think I was about seven when I had my first real trauma caused my big Pharmo advertising on TV... I was alone in my room, home from school with just an ordinary care of "stomach cramps" that kept me going to the toilet every 30 minutes. I'd seen the commercials back then about some new medicine with side effects that caused ANAL LEAKAGE... and thought it was funny... like any kid that age would. My brother came home from school acting all upset and said he'd heard Mom talking on the phone to Dad... telling him I had a bad case of anal leakage and he needed to hurry home and put a hose in my rear so I could go to school in the morning. I think I was there in my room an hour wondering how I was going to hide my anal leakage hose from everyone at school.

Me and my BF both had headphones on at the gym and saw this commercial...and neither one of us knew we were both laughing out loud at first...and then we both realized that everyone else could hear us....(and yeah..I hate this commercial...reminds me of a zombie factory)

The ASPCA commercials really piss me off...the money they spend on them and the freebies (t shirts, tote bags) that you get for donating could save a hell of a lot of animals...and I HATE the dramatic music and voice overs while they show horrific pictures to try to guilt you into donating.

I donate to and support the Ellen Gifford Shelter, a small independent no-kill cage-free cat shelter, and I love that their website, kitty-cam, newsletter and FB page are filled with positive success stories. Seeing the good they do and the positive way they do it makes me want to do as much as I can.

Lol sorry for the rant, but you touched a raw nerve here...
