Social media detox

Well, Bowyn, bus stops are a form of social media like parks and coffee shops.

I use Facebook, but unlike many others, I don't post cryptic statuses about my life, or fish for likes or attention. I share music on there, and some photos every now and again, or funny memes with my workmates and mates. I'm not one of those who adds people that are near enough strangers on there just to boost their friend count, I only add people I know. With it comes Facebook messenger, which I use to message people, as where I live you are lucky to get any signal to text, especially in my flat annoyingly!

I do have a twitter account but I rarely use it. I do have snapchat but that has become rather boring, it doesn't do anything that facebook messenger doesn't. So yeah, I do dabble a bit in social media, but I am not one of these people who lets it rule their lives.

I have yet to fill out my bus stop profile.
To be honest I never really log in or use it.

I have Facebook. The reason is because I started a Fraternity when I was in college and since I'm a Founder I have specific responsibilities to them. It's cool. I don't get crazy about it and check it all the time, maybe once a week. Recently, I quit my last job because I was too connected to everything on my phone (work e-mails, staff texting, work calling, payroll phone apps, company program apps) and I was also the administrator of the company Facebook page. I hated it.. I spent all my self time on the phone, at home on my desktop and driving in my car posting and answering stupid questions. It got so bad that I couldn't sleep at night and I started drinking more then I usually do. So, I walked into my bosses office and told him "I'm Done" I was there for 15 years but if it's killing you it isn't fucking worth it.
Now, I'm just trying to live a simple life and work in the community dealing with people and not computers and phone apps. I feel much better now. Something needs to be done with this over connectedness in the work place. I guarantee some laws will come in place soon as people begin to file lawsuits on the issue.

I'm on Facebook and Twitter, plus whatever forums I'm a member of.

I do limit my time on them all.

I have a Facebook account and visit it pretty much daily, but for decreasing amounts of time. I like hearing about people's lives, but there is way too much clickbait, even with the two plug-ins I have (Social Fixer and Facebook Purity) which allow you to blacklist words of phrases (my list includes Kardashian, Jenner, Duggar, "what happens next", "will amaze you", etc.) that I couldn't care less about. When I was on a volunteer board of directors I had to be on there everyday helping administer groups and pages, where conversations sometimes got quite nasty. Since I quit that in January I have spent a lot less time on the site, but I have lists set up to "visit" the folks whose lives I enjoy reading about.

I have a Twitter account but visit it rarely. When I attended big conferences for the aforementioned board position, it was a useful way to get a holistic sense of what was going on.

I am old-school in that I have a LiveJournal (a blog that you need to be my "Friend" to see) and I have gone back to that because it keeps me doing some actual writing. Only a dozen or so folks can see it and comment, and I'm fine with that.

i dont have facebook, insta, g+ or twitter. and still alive and not missed anything important. i have tumblr, which i rarely use...

im not intetested in being online all the time, nor seeing pics, statuses or what ever from my contacts either. it is useless to know if one on my contacts is feeling sad, happy, wants to read or watch tv - well, for gods sake read the fking book then, eat that cake, drink beer or whatever!

Especially at work I've noticed

I did create a Twitter account but I've never used it. I've been meaning to delete it actually as I did 'follow' several people; mainly favorite authors and such and my email has been peppered with updates which annoy me. I guess I asked for that!

I used Facebook when it first exploded on the scene but I rarely use it these days. I have found it handy to contact people in emergencies though

Social media shouldn't replace interacting with the people around you. To many of the teens I've seen will text while you are trying to have a conversation with them. They can't pay attention to the people around them because they want to "share" the experience with people who aren't there.

I'm on Facebook following friends from high school that I lost contact with, because we all just drifted to different states. Some other friends and family. I talk with my one cousin in New York on it every week or so. She's the first family member I came out to, and that was over messenger.

I got on Instagram because my first in person boy crush was on it and I had to stalk him properly.

Twitter, signed up for it, don't see the point in annoying everyone with my stupid thoughts. If I wouldn't talk to you in person about something, I'm not going to post it for the world to see. I don't talk a lot in person, so what's the point. None of my friends use it.

Hookup and dating sites - yes, tried a whole bunch of them, and should put up my own reviews of them all. For me, being busy with a real life, job, kid, and saving every stray that shows up at my door, it was quicker to use hookup apps to explore a bit.

Recently deleted all the profiles and apps off my phone, and I'm slowly removing all the other online sites. And told my last house guest, the phone sure is boring without grindr on it... Big Grin
