Do you really need to take 10,000 steps a day to keep fit?

I don't have anything that counts my steps. I jogged for twenty minutes this morning at a modest pace, and if I assume I jogged at a pace of three steps a second, that would be 3600. Then I walked to 1.5 miles to work, which is apparently almost 3200 more. Walking home will add another 3200, which I guess gets me precisely to 10,000. Huh.

Let's see, I walked from the house to catch the 157, which is .9 miles. Then took the 157 too Carlisle, which was about 100 feet to route 5, caught that downtown, got off 5 blocks from St. Martins, then walked to St. Martins, up the steps, waited, had the meeting, then walked about .8 miles to the transportation center, took the 36 to the furthest of its route, walked another .2 miles.
Then there is the stair climber - My room is on the second floor - I must climb those stairs at least a dozen times a day.
And that was just today. This was actually a 'short' day for me, since I try to tackle at least three beasts a day, which most likely adds up to about 5+ miles of limping along, I mean walking. AND I carry at least 15 pounds on my back. Tomorrow I will be carrying all of my medical files, all of my inhuman services department papers (welfare), all of my social security files and have 1.5 miles of walking between buses just one way. So figure at least 25 pounds on my back. BTW the pain specialist told me (and he was serious) to not carry more than 10 pounds on my back - EVER again. Well he had to have been joking I guess.
I believe I get more than my share of steps in a week.
Seriously, if a person thinks they need to exercise, its time they put the car in the garage and use the mass transportation system in their town and walk from place to place - more than plenty of exercise can be found.

Yes. I wear a Nike fuelband. I admit it. It's like a nagging boyfriend that is always reminding me when he needs attention and when I'm not giving it to him.Lol! Actually I enjoy it. I have had it for 2 years and log in my workouts everyday.
