Keeping fit. How many steps a day do you do?
#1
Do you really need to take 10,000 steps a day to keep fit?

I don't have anything that counts my steps. I jogged for twenty minutes this morning at a modest pace, and if I assume I jogged at a pace of three steps a second, that would be 3600. Then I walked to 1.5 miles to work, which is apparently almost 3200 more. Walking home will add another 3200, which I guess gets me precisely to 10,000. Huh.

Honey, 10,000 steps is cleaning the house for me. Laugh

Seriously though, I've just come out of months of physical therapy and I have a continuing regimen of exercises that I must do daily in order to prevent re-injuring my poor old body. Do I like doing them? Not so much. Do I understand the benefit of being able to wipe my ass after a bowel movement? Big time.

To those of you who are young and think that fabulous chest and fine booty shaking ass are going to last forever, wake up and smell the coffee (or tea depending on your preference). The older you get the more maintenance it takes to not leave testis tracks dragging on the sand behind you and your pectorals happily pointed up instead of keeping your belt buckle company. Exercise now. I don't know about 10,000 steps, but at least pick up that stiff pair of underwear on the bedroom floor, run a vacuum over the traffic pattern that leads to the feeding trough, and clean out the condom, lube packets, and trick sheets from the thirty thousand dollar car which you're still in debt to the bank. It kills me when guys will pay 200 hundred for a gym membership and use an elliptical machine 50 miles to nowhere and when they drag you to their house its as sticky as the floor of a porn shop.

Let's see, I walked from the house to catch the 157, which is .9 miles. Then took the 157 too Carlisle, which was about 100 feet to route 5, caught that downtown, got off 5 blocks from St. Martins, then walked to St. Martins, up the steps, waited, had the meeting, then walked about .8 miles to the transportation center, took the 36 to the furthest of its route, walked another .2 miles.

Then there is the stair climber - My room is on the second floor - I must climb those stairs at least a dozen times a day.

And that was just today. This was actually a 'short' day for me, since I try to tackle at least three beasts a day, which most likely adds up to about 5+ miles of limping along, I mean walking. AND I carry at least 15 pounds on my back. Tomorrow I will be carrying all of my medical files, all of my inhuman services department papers (welfare), all of my social security files and have 1.5 miles of walking between buses just one way. So figure at least 25 pounds on my back. BTW the pain specialist told me (and he was serious) to not carry more than 10 pounds on my back - EVER again. Well he had to have been joking I guess.

I believe I get more than my share of steps in a week.

Seriously, if a person thinks they need to exercise, its time they put the car in the garage and use the mass transportation system in their town and walk from place to place - more than plenty of exercise can be found.

Yes. I wear a Nike fuelband. I admit it. It's like a nagging boyfriend that is always reminding me when he needs attention and when I'm not giving it to him.Lol! Actually I enjoy it. I have had it for 2 years and log in my workouts everyday.

I was given a FitBit by my boss for my last birthday. I actually like it a lot. It doesn't make me do MORE stuff but it helps me keep track of what it is that I *actually* do.

My goal is to loose roughly another 30lbs. Given that six years ago I weighed over 250 (ugg!!) and that today I weigh 195... and that in between then and now I've weighed as little as 180 and as much as 210... and given that I do resistance training four to five days a week... I *enjoy* having something that helps me keep track of it all. I'm NOT that impressed with how it tracks calories (intake and outgo); it should be EASIER than it is... but I do enjoy seeing how much I've walked.

For example: Yesterday I walked 5.06 miles; Tuesday I walked 11.8 miles; on Tuesday June 9th, I walked 13.5 miles. Since my birthday in January when I was given the silly thing, FitBit tells me I've walked the equivalent of the entire length of Italy! (Oh, and claimed the equivalent of over 30,000'!)
