Just found my 1970s section of 12"..haven't seen them in a long time...and when I think about it...the 70s into maybe 1987 were the best years at the gay nightclubs IMO....electric energy all the time...
I DJ'ed sometimes as well...but mostly bartended...or went out to all the other clubs....
I hate the term "old school"...
My personal favorite disco genre is funk/R&B/soul disco....but I liked most all of the different genres..at least something from all of them...
1979 ...Patti LaBelle ...Music Is My Life
1978 ...Rick James.....You And I
1979 ....Stephanie Mills ...Put Your Body In It
1979 ...Sylvester ....Stars
...and the best song of the 70s IMO...Diana Ross...The Boss 1979
I loved Oil Can Harry's huge dance floor...on Larkin St in SF...late 70s.......and the go go boys were even kinda "fun"...these remind me of that place....
..hundreds of sweaty sexy guys dancing with you nuts to butts .....
Well East, the OP was going back to the 70s. When she died in 2012 her obituary in The Times described her as "undisputed queen of the Seventies disco boom"

I dunno..I would say "disputed".....
At the time..Candi Staton, Gloria Gaynor, Linda Clifford and Diana Ross were all considered for the title. I think her mainstream appeal gave her the title whereas Staton, Gaynor, Clifford..and even Ross's dance stuff was mostly in gay clubs...Summer was all over the place.
I would even consider Madonna maybe as the Queen...her stuff packed the dance floor for years....much to my dismay. LOL.....I had to hear loud dance music blasting in my ear every night as part of my job so I had to hear Madonna ALOT...even more than Summer....but I do like Madonna as a person...I just dislike her music except for a few things....mostly because it was overplayed and I didn't really love it to begin with....
It was Summer actually who convinced me not to DJ except on occasion...her damn Bad Girls album...one after another song became popular. I liked Hot Stuff and Bad Girls...but I LOATHED Sunset People and all the others...hated it...and all night long people requested it....UGH....
