Insomnia
#1
Hi everyone.

I don't know if this affects anyone else on the site, but I suffer from Insomnia and its getting worse, i havent slept since I woke up on Monday morning. I comes and oes every couple of months where i spend over 100+ hours constantly awake, then I delevop a routine of sleep and it happens again :frown:

Thing is I feel mentally OK however, becoming forgetful the longer I stay awake, lol! Have tried allsorts to rectify it but it doesnt work, it stems from suffering from depression for nearly 2 years, thankfully thats a demon I'm beating and am now more adjusted.

Thing is I've just started a new job a couple of months ago and I'm worried that it could seriously affect my performance there should it continue. and i cant afford to lose my job, more importantly cant afford to lose my health physically/mentally agian.

I can relate kinda, I regularly go for a while on one-hour nights. It used not to be so bad but period of stress, all that, blah.

Can only relate the usual advice, remove sources of stress if possible, watch your diet - regular meals - healthy food, cut out late caffeine, etc. If all else fails, see a doctor and go for a short course of sleep medication just to reset your patterns. That's the only thing that's worked for me in the past since stress can be hard to remove, and it's worked for me for a while. Thinking of going that route again myself. Of course a nightly bout of passion is the best solution if that's available, at least I seem to recall... :/

Hey RR, sorry to hear about your condition.

Would like a bit more information as to what you have tried in the past.

Glad to hear that your depression is better adjusted. I wonder if you are taking meds for this condition. Many ADs can cause sleep problems and you may want to ask your doctor to change your medication or to add a sleeping dose or even change the AD (if you are taking one) schedule.

I suffer from some really odd condition and take a med to stay awake, a med to fall asleep, etc... so I really feel for you and your 100+ hours.

Good luck,
frank

Staying awake for 100 hours is clearly beyond 'ordinary insomnia', and it is happening regularly. I would go see your doctor.

I didn't sleep last night, but that's because I made the mistake of popping a dove five minutes before going to bed. Gave me more time with one of my friends though, which was nice. (Why does that sound like I'm talking about a toy)

You really should consult a doctor about your insomnia. I had a brief, albeit severe case of stress induced insomnia back in October 2007. (I direct you to read my "Sleep Deprivation" thread which contains everything I did during that time). It really isn't something you should shake off, you need to find the cause and elimanate the problem, because as I have learned, it can severely impact your life.

Hello mate,
I had a tiny spate of being unable to sleep and tried various things but one thing that did a trick for me was putting on some headphones and listening to soothing songs such as panpipes, enya/enigma also sacred spirits with songs such as yeha noha help to relax the mind.. I found that with my past depression when i was 18 through to late 19 it was mainly down to worry and coping... Maybe evaluate see if anything is upsetting the balance and needs addressing... With regards to the job just keep on top form and maybe discuss with them about your sleeping disorder...

Kindest regards

Hi guys!

Firstly sorry for length of time in replying. I'd wish to report I have managed to get some much needed sleep, feel tip top and refreshed again Happy

Thanks for all your advice, I have arrange to go and visit my doctor regarding this and will post an update. Work have also been very supportive which I think has helped me relax a lot.

Also am going to confront some of my depressive demons again, see if by banishing them once and for all I can finally get a consistant run of sleep.

Thanks again
XSleep2 lol!
