I Am Cait
#1
Is anyone watching this show?

I never paid attention to the whole Kardashian thing, i dont understand how exactly people can be famous for being famous, but I found the idea of an olympic athlete coming out as trans really interesting. The first episode was kind of eh, and it was really just curiosity and boredom that led me to watch the second one. But I have to say that I'm finding this one really interesting.

A lot of other trans womens and activists are calling Cait out on her privilege and isolation from the more common experiences of trans people, and I dont know, its interesting.. and its endearing to see Cait really learning how she can use her fame and voice to not only speak for other trans people who are struggling, but to step aside and help create a platform for them to speak for themselves.

Am I being too generous? Does the show just strike you as more ego driven exhibitionism? What do you think?

UGH..cannot fucking stand "Cait"...I have ranted about it before...no way will I ever watch that show....UGH UGH UGH...

I have never watched the Kardashians...and never want to. The little bit I have seen of them makes me want to puke. Idolizing rich people just because they are rich is NOT something I aspire to...

Would that be because of her political views?

It certainly is part of it...but her vibe in general....I genuinely dislike this person even without the politics...

I just read your first post on that link you posted, and I agree with you on all your points. I also think its weird as a gay man, as something to do with my sexuality, to be grouped in with people who are experiencing things with their gender identity. But that I suppose is a whole other thing.

In terms of what is interesting me about the second episode of the show though is that Cait is getting called out for everything you mentioned - being rich, being famous, for being rushed on the cover of Vanity Fair, for having such conservative views on social programs, for being called out on acting like its all about her hair and her clothes and how sexy she can make herself look as a woman, to flat out being so easily accepted by society without facing the struggle, the isolation, and the violence so many other trans people face. I think the people in this episode are trying to frame transition as something so much more than being "brave" and looking beautiful on a magazine cover, like its that easy to be accepted. They called her out as living in a bubble. And rather than getting defensive and egotistical about it, it just seems like shes taking it in, trying to learn what it means to be a part of that community now and having such a platform.

I dont know, I guess I made this thread and then just defended my enjoyment of the show because it caught me by surprise that I'd find it so interesting. I suppose I respect seeing people who are called out on their privileges taking it with such humility and responding in a way that seems as if they are honestly interested in making themselves and those within their sphere of influence better.

But who knows, maybe next episode will just be about her going shopping for a bathing suit and getting bikini wax tips from Kim Kardashian.

Lol, that got a legit belly laugh from me. I totally have an image of that in my head now of how I'd draw it. Let me have another glass of wine and I'll think about making it happen.

I saw the episodes ..
The second episode was pretty hilarious ..
The contradictions annoyed me...

Caitlin brought Trans women into the spotlight that were incredibly jealous of her.

Those women were propelled into the spotlight by Caitlin..
If it wasn't for her show ..
They wouldn't see the light of day..

I mean ..before the show. .
Did you recognize. .or have you heard of any of them?

They judged her about a stupid comment ..
>"Doing sex work to pay for surgery "<

The confessional from "Cutie Afro Trans girl" was catty and treaded the lines of.. "This is common".. "Caitlin don't know what she's talking about!!"..
I would respect her more if she had said it to her face..

I live in gay Fort Lauderdale..
I worked from 1993 to 2015 as a DJ in Industrial. ..Gothic and gay clubs.
I know the hard working Trans girls that 'man up' part time for work and school ..they bust ass to get their post operations and they do it honestly. .

The dark side..

I know the "queens of the night" scouting bars and clubs ... always hunting for coke ..meth ... or a paying trick for the next fix..

>Selling your body to pay for soul < is not an option where I come from.. To normalize that concept ..and throw shade at Catlin pissed me off..

"He's privalged" they keep throwing around..
..No.. he outsmarted the entire Trans community. .

He busted ass as an athlete..
Made a living doing endorsements , appearances seminars and speeches, made some extra from the "E" network. hung in there till his children matured .. and now it's his time..

I believe his political views will change in time when he dives further into the Trans Community ..

Yup..The entire Kardashian and Jenner clan..
Bruce turned out to be the most entertaining.

No, I'm not watching it. I wish the whole trainwreck would just go away already. Manufactured drama.
