My passion, discovering my hidden talent
#1
In life, like most people esp. those in their twenties I don't know what I'm doing. Well, I do have an idea of what I wanna do and what I like and where I want the future to go but I don't actually know what my secret talent/ passion is.. As I am sure all that goes to many factors such as education, cultural and social norms and many other things that aim to suppress our passions and hidden talents. That's why they're called "hidden" talents.. I have been trying to do translation here and there and although I am not competent enough to call myself a reliable translator I've felt something with it.. Sure, sometimes I just don't feel like doing it or feel uncomfortable doin it but other times all I want is to just do it, I isolate myself from my surroundings and just do it I still don't know how to describe it exactly because I don't have a precise idea of what doing something you're passionate about rlly feels like and when you can know that you found your true calling... I know, I have always been fond of languages in general and learning them and ever since I was 15 I have always felt that I'd become a translator or something like that and maybe I will.. Which is why I would like to hear from those who were able to find their passions and those who do what they love doing .. How did you find it? how does it feel? Can you ever imagine doing anything else or do you think you'd have another "talent/ passion" ??!

At the end of the day doing something that you don't mind or you like beats the hell out of working in a job that sucks the life out of you and a job that you hate so much you cannot stand it.. I hope I won't become like one of those people

You won't become one of these people who pretend liking their job while they curse at it in secret, not if you believe in your talents. But first of all, like you said, you gotta find them, and that's quite a challenge...

Guess I consider myself lucky to have known since a long time my talents in both mathematics and writing, which seem to be completely different from each other. And despite the difficulties in between, I have decided to grow both of them, and not sacrificing one for the other. So my advice is, if you find out many different talents in you, don't ever stop working on any of them, be it a little touch every day.

As for translating, I'd advise you to learn French and/or German as a supplement, especially if you'll consider moving to Europe in the future.

Anyway, good luck with finding your talents and ambitions Wink

You find out the same way you find out what you like sexually - by thinking about it, by fantasizing about it, and (most heavily) by doing it. And by remaining flexible enough to realize that you don't necessarily have to fit into any particular predetermined "slot". Try it all out in your spare time. Try different aspects of it. Allow yourself to let your mind wander a bit. "Well, what if I did this, but skipped over that, and then spent more time doing this other thing?"

That's how I started. And how I ended up where I am today. And why I'm still trying to nudge things outward two decades and change later.

I've known since I was a kid exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I don't view myself as really having talents, instead I have skills that I have acquired and refined and continue to develop. It is passion that drives all of my work, and I love everything I do. Neither school not work feel like things I have to force myself to do. I have three jobs right now and all of them feel like they are just an extension of what id talk about and do on my own time.

To me that's what passion is, something that fills your head and time and it feels like you have a responsibility to get it out into the world and see it through.

Oh wow verysimple..you have one of the keys of life in your grasp...very cool.....congrats....you are ahead of the pack...

DEFINITELY follow your passion. I know a lot of people don't believe in the soul...and that's cool...but I do believe in the soul..and I think passion comes from the soul and that your soul is your map for life...so following your passion is important....

I do have a few passions..I am lucky. I have a lot of passion for what I am doing..I love antiques and I love preserving things and treating them with respect...I love the art and the style of a lot of periods....

...but my REAL passion..uh...I like to help people overcome shit and/or get out of a hole they are stuck in - on their own terms so they don't know what I am doing. The passion comes from watching a light go on ...I love making it happen..but I prefer to do it when they don't know what hit them. I can't help it...when I see someone who is trapped inside..and I know I can bring them out of it...I do it. I thought about it as a career once but I would rather do it for free ...because I want to. The thing that motivates me..I hate it when the bad guys win..and most of the holes people get stuck in were initially dug by someone else....usually one of the bad guys or gals...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............

I do realize one thing, in our lives we may feel confused and don't know what we are doing at a young age, but in each life there are dots... Dots that will connect together with time and show us the path that we walked, show us what we did and why we did it so if we trust the dots, trust our intuition and go with our passions then it'll all make sense later on.. I know that much for sure
