Bass Covers
#31
Is that the new Bass then buddy ? nice cover by the way - NativeSons choice of Pixies - Into the white will put you and your new instrument to the test if you choose to give it a try....its quite a difficult song as Kim Deal the bass player plays runs that are tricky.

So Why the haircut then which I saw you mention in another thread - hope you haven't lost your super powers Smile

It was. lol Two days after I got it and did the first cover with it the treble boost pot went bad, but thanks to Zach who works at the music store I got an even better five string Ibanez when I took the Sterling back in yesterday. Tongue Apparently they were having problems like that with more than one Sterling in the store, but Zach helped out on a Ibanez SR305E, and gave me a big discount. It has a three band EQ with a bass mid and treble boost whereas the Sterling only had a two band EQ with a bass and treble boost, a power tap switch, and two Powerspan dual coil humbucker's with a balance knob to set the balance between the two or switch over completely to either the bridge or neck pickup. Tongue I didn't use it on this new cover I just posted, but I will on the next cover when I try to do Into The Light by The Pixies. Smile I know what you mean. lol I just listened to the song, and I really like the deep heavy bass line especially in the opening, but it will be tricky to get down. Even if I fail though it's worth a try, and it's all in good fun. lol Tongue As for the hair. >> A certain relative said he would make it his personal crusade to make my life hell unless I cut it. Apparently I'm an embarrassment, and more so with the hair in his opinion. He also added a few choice comments to put me down. Just glad for my friends here to talk to, you guys.

Why not return the favour - make this relatives life a living fucking hell , he sounds a piece of shit they you should avoid at all costs - he sounds like a jealous nobody to me , its a shame you felt you had to cut your hair because of this prick - do yourself a favour and grow it how you want - and be proud of the fact you are annoying this arsehole at the same time - you cant choose your relatives

...but you sure as hell can choose whether you want to see or speak to them...

Good luck with the new Bass buddy....it does sound like your happy with it

Thank you, and that pretty much sums him up. I intend to grow it out again, was just down about it sense I spent practically a year on it, but I ordered an LGBT T-shirt to annoy him as you said. Tongue I was raised by my grandparent's who loved me unconditionally whether I was gay or not, and my only regret is not coming out back then sense I know they would have accepted me, but I know there always with me in memory and at heart. Luckily when I came out I had inherited my grandfathers height so all I get is the comment's. I was the lucky one in that respect being raised by them, and I can't blame my biological mom and sister for taking off a few years back. It was probably the best move for them to get away from him, but I still try to stay in contact with my older sister and mom. Sorry to ramble. Totally, it's a sweet bass and I've never had one with that many option's on it before so there's a learning curve. lol I found a couple different version's of Into The Light by The Pixies, I'll be covering the one they did during there Peel Session and I've already taken notes and added the song to my Ipod. I'll begin running through it either this evening or in the morning until I get it down, and do the cover after I can play it comfortably. Smile Just may take a little time, it varies with each song and I can't say it will be perfect but it will be fun. lol Tongue

It's actually 'Into the White.'

This is 'Into the Light':

If you played guitar, I'd ask you to play that. (Though that particular bass is nothing to sneeze at either.)

Love the Peel version. Smile

I got the two songs mixed up there for a moment. lol Tongue Still a good one though, and awesome to know. Smile I agree totally, the peel session version is great. ^^ I tried six string electric guitar before, but could never get it down or meld with it like bass so just a bass guy. Smile Thank you, and here's the cover. I used the new Ibanez SR305E for this one, and I also wanted to thank you for requesting this song as well. It was really a fun song to learn, and play and it sounds awesome as well. I hope you like the cover. Smile

That Bass sound brilliant.....im vey impressed....bet your over the moon with it....sounds really crisp too and I personally think you play better on it too - more fluid up and down the neck

to say you only knew this Pixies song a couple of days ago I have to tip my hat for your effort, great finger work Smile

P.S the hair does actually suit you so don't stressed bout having it cropped mate - I used to have Mohawks....now that is stressful when you shave that off lol

Thank you, and totally over the moon with it. lol Tongue Normally you would think a five string would have a wider neck, but Ibanez really streamlined the neck on these basses, and it's amazing how slim it feels and how playable it is. It seems to fit in your hand just right or at least that's what I think. I never owned an Ibanez before so maybe I found the one I meld best with. Sorry, I hope that makes sense and doesn't sound silly. Tongue I agree the sound is crisp which I like as well, and I had dialed in a deeper bass tone beforehand with the balance set completely on the neck pickup with a few EQ adjustments, but I forgot I had rolled the balance back to even between both pickups along with a few more EQ adjustments experimenting before I did the cover though afterwards I think that crisp sound worked a little better with the song. I appreciate that, I tried to get it down as best I could with just hearing the song a couple of days ago as you said, and I hoped it was good. I tend to question my skill from time to time, but I do try, and I am thankful for all the feedback. Thanks, and I can see how a Mohawk would be more stressful. lol I see what you mean though, and I agree. I'm okay with having it cropped now plus it will always grow again. Tongue Thanks again. ^^ Also, I think Mohawks look cool. Smile

Thought I would do this cover for fun. Smile I hope I did okay, and had an okay tone dialed in. ^^ That's what I really like about Rick Savage's bass lines from Def Leppard, there not overly complicated to play and they sound great. The old philosophy less is more. lol Tongue
