so they're taking quite a hit.

Government is offering a package that could save these companies BUT they have to be working on green technologies, I'm sorry but why are they complaining??
They SHOULD already be doing this.

1 it will give more jobs out for specialist jobs which quite frankly graduates will need.
and 2 it will help employees keep their jobs!

So why the hell are they complaining, you cant complain when your killing the fucking planet can you! I should be sueing them for ashma from all the cars they have produced!

Because they can and there are plenty of Labour MPs out there trying not to loose their seats who may well be helpful.

Wit car manufacturers its not thier fault that most of their customers drive lik pricks with the foot on the gas.. I personally find that the fumes are caused through people not walking short distances...

This is a big issue here in the US as both GM and Ford are close to going under due to a lot of things, some of which are market driven and some of which are their fault.

I look at it like this though
Between the two of them GM and Ford employ more than 3 million Americans.
The US government can't allow them to fail because it would place 3 million plus Americans out of work.

The best thing I think we can do is enforce a restructuring to make them more competitive. There are plans in place for this, we have yet to see if they are enforced.

With so many industries being (re)nationalised I wonder if there is space for some more creative thinking ... sort of a post-automotive "swords into ploughshares". Maybe that's just a tad whimsical?

Creative thinking in a nationalised industry is an oxymoron. :frown:

A few weeks ago I asked a member of staff at Cambridge Station why the train for Stansted Airport couldn't wait for one more minute to allow the train from King's Lynn to let the passengers off before pulling away, leaving travellers from the Fens with a 59 minute wait whatever time of day they made their journey. His answer? "Because they are not connecting services ..." That was less a reason than a statement of the bleedin' obvious.

I know the rail companies are supposed to be privatised, but old attitudes sometimes die very slowly.
