Self plug here, but I have also written a gay novel, where a certain someone inspired me to write it. Feel free to take a look! http://www.tylermcook.com/the-one

another amazing book dealing with homosexual culture and history that i discovered and read in the meantime is Graham Robb's Strangers:
i learned of Thom Gunn and his poetry from that book. and now i am addicted to Gunn's poems. he was such a sexy man as well.

Not a book, but an online comic.
Check, Please! is written and drawn by Ngozi Ukazu. Eric Bittle—former Georgia junior figure skating champion, vlogger extraordinaire, and amateur pâtissier—is starting his freshman year playing hockey at the prestigious Samwell University in Samwell, Massachusetts. And it’s basically nothing like co-ed club hockey back in the South. For one? There’s checking, and Bittle is very afraid of being checked on the ice. However, he needs to be on the hockey team, for the scholarship funds. It’s a story about hockey and friendship and bros and trying to find yourself during the best 4 years of your life. http://omgcheckplease.tumblr.com/about

It's Not Over by Michaelangelo Signorile. FANTASTIC!
Marriage equality has surged across the country. Closet doors have burst open in business, entertainment, and even major league sports. But as longtime advocate Michelangelo Signorile argues in his most provocative book yet, the excitement of such breathless change makes this moment more dangerous than ever. Puncturing the illusion that victory is now inevitable, Signorile marshals stinging evidence that an age-old hatred, homophobia, is still a basic fact of American life. He exposes the bigotry of the brewing religious conservative backlash against LGBT rights and challenges the complacency and hypocrisy of supposed allies in Washington, the media, and Hollywood. Not just a wake-up call, It's Not Over is also a battle plan for the fights to come in the march toward equality. Signorile tells the stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans who have refused to be merely tolerated, or worse, and are demanding full acceptance. And he documents signs of hope in schools and communities finding new ways to combat ignorance, bullying, and fear. Urgent and empowering, It's Not Over is a necessary book from one of our most electrifying voices.

Hello everyone.
Is there a gay modern novel that you'd recommend?

Jason111 Wrote:Hello everyone. Jason111, there are plenty around. What are you looking for, romance, thriller, adventure, self searching? Two I found particularly interesting but they're hardly new on the market are Faggots by Larry Kramer, and the Swimming Pool Library by Alan Holinghurst. Then there's also E.M. Forster's Maurice which is not new at all but is a good novel. Have you heard of Nicholas McInerny ? I don't know if he's published a novel yet, but his series has been on BBC Radio Four (A Perfect Marriage)

Thank you guys.
I've read Maurice. Never heard of Nicholas McInerny. I will check these out. As for the genre, I don't look for anything specific, I prefer it not to be only a romance, self-seeking etc

Have you read any of James Baldwin's books? He's one of my favorite writers and homosexuality is often a theme in his books.
Also, I haven't read it yet, but A Little Life is supposed to be an excellent novel, just not a pleasant one. |
