Constanrtly evolving they are incredibly hard to erradicate. You might not be affected but they are present everywhere. New York has a plague. This might be a solution:

Yes, it's already been done with some disease transmitting-mosquitoes, genetically modified males (either they were something akin to sterile or something to do with preventing proper larvae development) were thrown into problematic locations, don't rememeber were and the results were quite satisfying as the population decreased dramatically.

YES!!! I love it when science is used like this. It sounds psycho, but I love it nonetheless. *evil grin*
