I don't even peel my oranges, I just cut them in quarters to eat the edible parts and then throw away the rest

Me too, Insert, except I cut them in eighths. It makes one bite per piece.

mrex, not sure what you are asking. Merchandising pre-peeled bananas would be silly as they oxidize easily. Now if you had some reason to want to peel a banana and put in a plastic bag you could dip the pieces in a bit of lemon water to help them stay fresh looking. Thing is, banana peels are great packaging and biodegradable.

Another reason not to pre-peel oranges is that the peels are wonderful for seasoning when you grate them and even make great candy when boiled in sugar water. For those who really can not peel citrus there are sections packed in juice available in most groceries these days.

Whole Foods can be a good place for certain specialties but it is not the place for a common sense shopper to find bargains. We call it Whole Paycheck for a reason.

Growing up in southern California, I had a navel orange tree in the backyard and a citrus peeler in the kitchen. Citrus peelers are a nice tool to use.
