I think Portuguese is a lot more milder than Spanish, if u notice, they are very similar, but Portugal is a country located just at the west of the Spanish border, you can tell that some petty differences about lexicography and phonology split these two countries (lol), they used to be one kingdom circa 1000-1399 after the Christian rulers of Europe reconquested Iberia from the Moorish invaders. x

Holy crap! I got some catch-up reading to do hahaha, but from reading the first couple I can also say you have some talent. Very interesting pieces, interesting/unique topics and the way you word them. I've never read poetry in another language but it seems to work in its own way. Keep it up! :3

And I'm glad I inspired you to post your own stuff too Tongue I'll try and keep posting my own stuff every few days. Big Grin

Sylph Wrote:Thanks boo Wink . But far be it from me to claim to Speak Spanish. I mean yes I do, but not in the sense of how you interpreted it, i.e - no not natively/grammatically accurate.

I said as much already, tho this for me, is just a way to practice and exercise what vocabulary and syntax I have retained, and if later on I notice errors or if you or another native speaker graciously picks out errors, then I can make a mental note of where and how I made those errors and fix them.

Tho bitch, that Spanish "Por vs Para" conundrum, will forever be my bane, I swear x.x

The problem could possibly stem from the way I've learned to use them in Portuguese, which is different at times.

However, keep them error checks coming hun! You know I love when you correct me, cause it helps me learn Sheep

One of these damn days tho, I'll impress ya with some grammatically perfect Spanish Shakin

You're not there yet, but you've come a long way from zero, so that's an accomplishment.

Haha, you don't have to be perfect, not even native speakers are, but do take these small errors that change the entire meaning of the phrase into consideration.

Yes ma'am! You're quite well informed :v
Tho I find Portuguese more "Rustic" in a sense and a bit more flexible, but Spanish is like the more "emotive" sister Tongue

Yes gurl! Keep it up Wink
Poetry in a foreign language carries a different weight I find, because the meanings and gravity of whats being conveyed is not the same as in English or with one another :c

I can teach ya lil things here and there, but I'm not as educated in it as a fully Native speaker :0

Sadly, I dont but I did take it as a course in High school. For 4 years at GCSE level, but when I graduated, I stopped using it x.x

Hmm, Arabs weren't kicked out until 1492. The entire process of reconquista lasted centuries, starting with the very small kingdoms in the Spanish March of the Carolingian Empire. There were a bunch of those, each with their own latin-derived dialect.

More than Spanish and Portuguese diverging, what happened was an initial fragmentation of Iberian dialects, most of which were standarized under the Castilian dialect to form modern Spanish, which coincided of course with the unification of most of these small Christian kingdoms under the Catholic Monarchs, to form modern day Spain, leaving Portugal (and by extension Portuguese) as independent entities (except for a few ocassions).
