Name change after married?

No change

I take his name

He takes my name

Or create a new joint name?

Not sure what the trend would be. I think that is to be decided on a per couple basis. Some people take both names. Some people don't change.

I've mostly seen couples either stay the same, or take both names

I've already decided if me and my partner get married in the future that we will just keep our names the same. The whole name thing is just more paperwork to me.

My husband and I didn't change our names...

We had a hard enough time just finding a Justice of the Peace - to marry us!!!

I have thought that I would like it if we each added each other's last name to our last name. He would be Brown - Smith and I would be Smith-Brown. That way there is no indication of dominence.

In my country is not customary for the woman to take the man's name, she always keeps her maiden one. The kids carry both the paternal and maternal last name (in that order) and that is how we are legally registered upon birth.

I hardly think that gay dudes or dudettes here are going to do any differently

This is one aspect of the culture I live in that I'm keen to maintain if my hypothetical would-be-husband was from a different place, or I'm in another place.
