Will aircraft ever fly on nuclear power?

There are threads for many things but we don't have a threat for "Technology" so this has to go in to "Chit Chat"

Wow. Err. Perhaps not that great an idea.

I understand the need for alternatives to huge amount of fuel aircraft currently consume, but nuclear energy seems perhaps the wrong approach.
Maybe development of superior battery technology would be a better priority.

I'm looking forward to when fusion power is worked out though. That will be quite a break through, and can't be adopted fast enough really. Also, thorium reactors could be a nice stop gap.

Hi Genersis. I didn't add any comment to my post since I believe that the question was rhetorical, but no, I don't think that 'planes. will ever fly by nuclear power, at least not in its present form. Cold fusion seems a long, long way away.

Obviously not. This is an excruciatingly dumb idea.
