End the "gay panic defense" petition
#11
Australia is a land of many contradictions.

While if you ask an man, woman or child on the street, 7 times out of 10 you would get a positive attitude towards same sex marriage. 3 times out of 10 would be anywhere from indifferent to ropable at the thought.

The problem arouse in 2004 when the then extremely conservative government of John Howard use religion as a justification to reword marriage laws to be only inclusive of '1 man and 1 woman' as to resemble 'traditional' marriage in Australia.

In 2007 we voted in a piss week government who did nothing but eat themselves alive, so nothing useful got done.

And then we voted for another conservative government with a leader that even more conservative than his party's former leader, he got chucked out of office and now we have an ultra conservative dimwit blindly leading our country into the stone ages.

So yes, we have 'Gay Panic' as a defence in 2 of the most thrown back states in a thrown back country, not to get away with murder entirely, but down grade the charges from murder to manslaughter...a slap on the wrist.

Australia is almost as thrown back as the USA, although several US States have progressed.

While us Aussie sit back and wait another 3 years of watching this issue remain a political basketball debated by dimwits that at best if their brains were dynamite they still wouldn't have enough to blow their own noses, we watch our nearby neighbour, New Zealand celebrate almost 12 years of same sex marriage.

So what does Australia have going for it at the moment? Great beaches.

It just goes to show, the government isn't about democracy and serving for the majority...it is all about the highest bidder.

UPDATE: A bill has been presented in the Queensland parliament to end the "gay panic defence" in the state criminal code. The Bill probably won't be voted on until early 2017, so we must keep the pressure on the govt to make sure the bill is voted on ASAP and passes into law successfully. So once again, please share the link to the petition. Thanks.

I can appreciate the idea behind this but why is my street address required to sign the petition? Hmm.

Because when you sign a petition, your activities on the Change org platform are tracked and are associated with your account.

Well, I can't blame them. I'm fabulous.

I just don't need any more physical junk email. 2017 is going to be the year I put my foot down.
