I decided to go ahead and build me a new computer... Going to sell off a bunch of the other stuff, including the server, couple computers and so on... The computer I have is over 5 years old now and while it runs fine I can't really do much with gaming because the video card I have doesn't support DirectX 12 (although nVidia claims it does, popped my co-worker's GTX 760 and bang all of a sudden it works but with limited performance). The other issue is that I want to be able to run SATA3 on RAID 10, well current board only has 2x SATA3 ports so I have to run on SATA2, another bottleneck. At any rate I think things will run much better and should be set for another 5 years or more... I really do think the PC market is losing it's steam... The Core i7 260k is about 30% faster over the Core2 Extreme QX9650 (the 8 year old computer) and the skylake is about another 30% faster, so yeah things are getting faster but I think we're heading to a brick wall performance-wise...all due to Moor's Law...
Anyway, the specs... Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 Windforce OC HyperX FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 220-G2-0750-XR 80+ GOLD 750W GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 LG 25UM58-P 25" Class 21:9 UltraWide Full HD IPS Monitor 5ms

Apothic red is a red blend and if you like pinot noir you'll likely like the apothic red...and it pretty inexpensive...it is about $10-12 in my neck of the woods.. I can't do ultra sweet wines like moscato...I can't imagine drinking an entire bottle of that stuff lol

My actual last purchase was a dozen eggs, but just before that I bought a new keyboard for the computer. axle2152, why did the last one break after only about four months? I am really not mean to them!
Emiliano, drink the wines you like and experiment a lot. Rieslings are easy to like and gewurztraminer is great stuff, especially if you like sausages. The bottle neck shape tells you a bit about reds. The one with a shoulder and a straight neck is generally for Bordeauxs and the one with the tapered neck is for Burgunday-styled wines. I tend to like the red burgundies. I also tend to like sherries and ports, which are not in fashion right now. [Hush, Native Son.] A long while back I was a wine buyer. Learning about them is fun, especially if you have a friend or two to help you taste around.
I bid NO Trump!

I'll look out for it, I always like trying new wines. I've definitely gotten moscato drunk many times... I went through a brownie and glass of moscato every night phase a couple years ago. Not my proudest moment, but not my rock bottom either. I just like wine. Sweet, dry, red, white... just give me a glass of it. Especially on rent day

Last summer I went on a New England road trip with a friend and all he cared about was antiques and wine... we did the New Hampshire wine, cheese, and chocolate trail and I ended up trying a lot of new stuff. A lot of fruit wines and I think it was called ice wine, which was crazy delicious. It was a lot of drinking. But also a lot of fun learning about wine and wine making. I also got to try a lot of mead which I like too. Sherry just reminds me of getting drunk in crab soup. I can't really imagine drinking it by itself, but I do really enjoy being soup drunk. |
