I agree, I love his 70's stuff, Heroes, Low and Stationtostation have always been my favourite albums which ironically are the Berlin trilogy.
But in 'reality' I could listen to any of his music from 'Laughing Gnome' to 'Blackstar' and be enthralled with the imagery and protest hidden in each song.
Likewise with Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, there 70's music is fantastic, but Iggy's latest album, Post Pop Depression gives Raw Power a good run...Gardenia
But would either of those artist reached the stellar heights of fame if it were not for David Robert Jones?
