HIV Infection Reported in Patient Who Was Taking PrEP?
#1
This is a warning. If you're taking PrEP, practise safe sex!

Not surprised. PrEP significantly reduces the risk but isn't 100% safe.

Indeed. I'm amazed people do not know that. PrEP is not universal, first of all, and secondly - It's not 100% working.

Sadly I am not surprised either. There is nothing to protect you 100%, even if you always wear a condom. Those can end up with a hole in them, which wold allow for transmission, even with a lower chance it still can happen

I thought that was common knowledge too!
Apparently not, so thanks for sharing and spreading the info LONDONER

Infected dude in treatment with an undetectable level mixing blood and cum with a healthy guy on PrEP still doesn't mean safe sex. PrEP should be used WITH condoms.

I feel like this should be common sense.
If PreEP were 100% effective in everyone then it'd be the first 'perfect' medicine in history.

“All of these studies are showing it’s 97 percent effective -- not 100 percent,” notes Dr. Rodriguez. “So this wasn’t a surprise.”
Dr. Stork observes that one of the concerns when PrEP was introduced was that patients would no longer practice safe sex. And this does seem to be happening – rates for most STDs have gone up.

From the article.

It is my understanding that PrEP does not have a 100% efficacy rate, so it would be expected that there may be some cases in which a partner may be infected. I wonder though, did the HIV+ person know his own diagnosis and, if so, was he undetectable? U=U

The matter that there are sexually active people that do not know this clearly without any confusion is a testament to our need for better, recurrent PSA throughout our communities.
