No thanks. I don't like the sound of that at all. Dissolving one's body in alkaline solution sounds gross. I want my remains to go decently, not like that. I'd rather have myself buried. Cremation is my first choice, and remains my first choice.

Everything has an environmental cost, after all. Being alive has an environmental cost. If you want to be that friendly to the environment, you should just go ahead and end your life right now. This is becoming ridiculous. I'm all for being conscious of the effect you have on the environment around you, but measuring every other thing by how costly is in that regard is becoming annoying and dumb.

I Shall not Care Related Poem Content Details
BY SARA TEASDALE
When I am dead and over me bright April
Shakes out her rain-drenched hair,
Tho' you should lean above me broken-hearted,
I shall not care.

I shall have peace, as leafy trees are peaceful
When rain bends down the bough,
And I shall be more silent and cold-hearted
Than you are now.

A company employing this process did a reddit AMA a while ago.

Personally this is the way i'd like to go splitting your body into dust and water then just flowing into the river ways to join the endless cycle of the waters.
I hope it'll be legal before I die.

It's exactly the same as what happens to your body after burial. They just hit the fast forward button.

This will be significantly cheaper than fire cremation, Lye is only 0.50$ a kg compared to the cost of all that natural gas required to incinerate bone

I think unless you plan to save up for your own funeral it'd be unfair to burden your loved ones with a greater bill than necessary.

As for fire cremation being more dignified.

The details of cremation.
Spoiler:

I would say peacefully dissolving then flowing into a river is much more dignified. But I suppose that's a matter of personal taste.
