I stayed in Aleppo in 2009 at an interesting hotel callled the Al Diwan. The rooms were basic but comfortable but the public areas were beautiful as you can see from these photos. It has in all probability been destroyed by the Syrian president and his thugs by now. Interestingly, now, looking on the Internet, there is very little mention of any hotels in that city.
Here's a photo of the Citadel of Aleppo that I don't know if exists still. This was also a World Heritage Site. It is/was considered to be one of the oldest and largest castles in the world. The Citadel hill dates back at least to the middle of the 3rd millennium BC.
If you enlarge this photo you can see people on the bridge and this gives you some idea of just how large it is.
And finally here's a shot of a soap shop in the great suq". Allepo was famous for its hand made soap.
