After 30 years, DC Comics has now changed the Tim Drake Robin into a gay, bi-sexual character with the latest release of Batman: Urban Legends #6 anthology issue.

The comic book, from writer Meghan Fitzmartin whose Twitter account says she "will write for pie," sees Robin come out at the end of the issue while accepting a date from Bernard.

The two were battling Chaos Monsters where Robin saves Bernard and then Tim Drake decides that "yeah, yeah, I think I want that" regarding agreeing to go out on a date with Bernard.

The Tim Drake Robin has had girlfriends in the past, so it remains to be seen if Robin is going to be gay or be bisexual and continue having female love interests in the DC comics.

Marvel Comics has gone a similar route with characters such as Iceman, Cyclops, and Wolverine.

For those who don't follow comic books, you may think they have Robin's secret identity wrong, or that the Robin most of us know (Dick Grayson) is now bisexual.

Here is the deal.

The first Robin was Dick Grayson.  He is the one we all know from the Batman TV series, the Super Friends cartoon, and the Batman movies from the late 90s.   In 1984, DC Comics had Dick Grayson opt to stop being Batman's sidekick, changed his costume, and became Nightwing.

A new sidekick was picked to be Robin, going by the name Jason Todd.   To make him different from Dick Grayson, they turned him into a cynical kid with an "attitude problem".  As a result, he was not a fan favorite, and in 1988, DC Comics had a story with a fan phone in vote on whether Jason would live or die.  The end result was that Jason was killed off.

In 1989, a new Robin appeared with the name of Tim Drake.   Tim Drake was Robin until 2006, when Bruce Wayne's (Batman) son who Bruce never knew existed showed up.  The son was Damian Wayne, and he took over as Robin, and Tim Drake took on a new costume and became Red Robin.

Damian Wayne was killed in a battle, and that led Tim Drake to take on the role of Robin again, and this is the Robin that is now being made bisexual.

Whew!
