I agree with you on that one, D5. But when kicking a ball against someone's window, whether accidental or not, have you ever noticed how what happens next is always in slow motion? Very dramatic when the window bows one way on impact as the ball bounces off the other just before the glass breaks and you get that amazing sound.

Although I managed to get up to date with the laundry this week I did not get up to date with the recycling. Now PA, or his mum if she pays a visit, will have the fun of walking the wheelie-bag full of glass down the street to the recycling bin rather than me.

Over thirty years ago I worked for a firm of builders. We didn't recycle glass in those days and the best job ever with that company was taking some replaced glass windows to the council refuse dump in Chelsea and throwing huge panes of glass on to a metal conveyer belt from the back of my truck. If only I'd had a digital recorder to capture the sound (not that they existed at the time). I tried smashing bottles with a hammer for one recording project last year. Very feeble sound, unfortunately. Rolleyes

Well if you're ever really angry try it! You can do it anywhere, just put it in a plastic bag and throw has hard as you can. I have old glasses I don't need, so they are going to be executed! Now this is wierd but I sort of feel bad for them, they didn't do anything wrong

specs = spectacles = glasses. Specs in this sense sound a bit old fashioned, perhaps.

specs also means specifications in the UK

Correct, I'm not very modern.

Spec can also refer to the act of speculation as in "I went to his house on spec" - i.e. in the hope that he would be at home.
