Isn't it more than that? Most Americans I know seem to have an extraordinary confidence in themselves and in the virtue of hard work to bring about change. Most of the rest of us know that that is usually a distraction perpetrated by a small elite with an interest in maintaining the status quo and thus their grip on power. So, in order to make sense of anything dark or difficult we mock it. Just my ha'pen'orth Wink

I thought that the joke was rather funny, you just have to be able to look at it as a joke. I mean if someone did this for real I might question it. But then again if his wife and he were die hard fans then she might turn over in her grave if he were to have skipped the game.

If it were baseball or NFL it wouldn't matter I would go to the funeral, I am not a sports fan.
