Gay book?

Help me here... A straight friend wrote a scifi novel (his first one) and he's been blow away by the reaction he's been getting.

He complains that straight guys start it and can't get past the first chapter. Women have no problem reading it, and they universally enjoy it, I did, but his honest view of "gay" and "alternative" lifestyles being the norm in the future does not seem to set well with the straight-male community.

He was offered a lot of money for the screenplay, but turned it down to write the book. He would have lost the rights if he sold the screenplay. The economy is not good for new authors, so this is a risk he is willing to take.

His attitude is that everybody is now starving, just like he is, so why not?

I think he's crazy for putting it out for free, but after 5200 downloads he has made a couple of hundred sales. Maybe he's onto something? His new wife is an NPD wacko, so I hope this thing ends up being a good thing in his life.

Ok I hope it works out to his advantage, need good writers so we can move to a new place in our minds and enjoy the fruits that we find there
