Beautiful Thing is one of the best movies ever made. It was filmed in the same town as me and I was of a similar age to the two leads when I first saw it so it has a special resonance for me. Torch Song Trilogy is a great film too, if only for the graveside scene.
I think the Rock Hudson/Doris Day movie Pillowtalk is a really gay movie, as is Calamity Jane. You won't find any overt references in there, but you'll know.
Prayers for Bobby with Sigourney Weaver as the Mum. Saw it on Youtube. I defy you not to weep!
Borstal Boy downloaded from ZLM (or ZML?) about Brendan Behan, Irish poet and IRA member. Really interesting. Might read the book.
Brideshead Revisited: the film not the old TV series, very atmospheric with a gorgeous Sebastian
Maurice: on Youtube
Prayers for Bobby was really good, I cried like I've never cried before. Sigorney Weaver was amazing as Bobby's mother.
Were The World Mine is seriously my favorite gay movie every, it is an amazing musical and film with a really cute plot and really well done. Watch it, it's a must see.
I saw a fantastic short film entitled iiiTodas!!! At the short film festival here. All about the lives of Transsexual prostitutes, and how the word TODAS is used. Searing, artistic and revealing. Not to mention shocking. A really great piece of film.
