Best Gay Films!

princealbertofb Wrote:Sexy and beautiful, but dark... And when you think handsome Brad Davis died of Aids, it sort of dampens the mood a bit... I think it may have been drug related though. We originally saw his sweet face in Midnight Express, which, while not being gay had something very homo erotic about it.

I forgot that he had died of AIDS. from IMDB:

Quote:Davis contracted AIDS in 1979 apparently from his one-time cocaine addiction, but in response to the anti-AIDS hysteria in Hollywood, Davis kept his illness a secret for a number of years and continued to act. His later years had him finally revealing that he had AIDS and he became an AIDS activist in bashing the Hollywood industry and US government for ignoring and shunning victims suffering from the hideous disease. Davis died in 1991 at age 41. His widow, Susan Bluestein, continues his activist work in the fight against AIDS.

He won a Golden Globe for Midnight Express.

On another topic. I am glad that this generation has a much happier gay cinema. So many great sexy comedies.

I think I just saw Kinky Boots. It was a fun movie.

As I said Frank, drug related, unfortunately. Brad Davis was a superb actor... Sad that he, like so many, had to go that way. Hideous way to go. But you are right, so many positive gay films these days... Has anyone seen TRICK???

There was a film called Paris, Texas by German film director, Wim Wenders, which made it big in Cannes and after Cannes... However I suppose that's why the makers of this film called it Paris, France...
Here's a little information;
1983 (how old were you Dan???)

The acting out of the private fantasies, always a titillating idea, mainly because of the inherent risk involved, is the central theme here. Some openly sexual scenes and some even more open sex talks are the highlight of the movie. Acting is great. It gets too artful and cerebral (read loses reality) by the end.

Director: Jerry Ciccoritti
It's apparently a Canadian movie...
see IMDB (my source for film information) : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107779/

Was this something you saw on tv when you weren't supposed to be watching???

Yes,it was.I remember that my Momsy made the decoder block any age restricted shows then but we figured out the password.Suddenly,TV was more than just Barney and Sesame Street.I don't regret doing it though. As a parent ,I would ban my kids from watching that kind of television though.

I liked TRICK. Havent seen Tan Lines but looks good (with some references to Larry Clark). Paris,France looks good too... so lucky you Dan.

Some of my more recent movies seen in the past couple years:

The Mudge Boy (2003 USA) with the amazing Emile Hirsch.
Latter Days (2003)
johns (1996)
Soldier's Girl (2003)
Edge of Seventeen (1998) great coming of age story with the music I grew up with...
Mysterious Skin (2004) amazing film but rather depressing. dir. Gregg Araki does his very best work here.
Hedwig and the angry inch (2001) a great modern musical. Love this film. Just taped his (dir. John Cameron Mitchell) Shortbus (2006) which looks really good too.

edit: sorry if there were any repeats to above posters including my own...
edit 2: forgot to mention a new database for gay films. It is supported by another forum but I dont think you have to join the forum to use the database. IGMDb (International Gay Media Database) includes Movies Music Books Games and a small discussion area.

Except for the brilliant "Rabbit-p roof Fence",I'm not really familiar with Australian TV/cinema (except for Neighbours :redfaceSmile.Anyways yesterday,I saw,WITH MY BOYS,a movie called "Priscilla : Queen Of The Desert" and it was amazing! It's about these 3 drag queens that trek across the Australian outback and their misadventures. It stars Hugo Weaving aka Agent Smith and another HOT HOT HOT guy.Recommened viewing indeed.
