You've already had a ton of good advice already. I was on ADs for a year when I was in a particularly low state a few years ago. The side effect of loss of libido was actually a good thing for me in the situation I was in at the time. Of course, that would not suit everyone!! It gave me time to think and deal with some more basic problems through continuing talk therapy.
After a year went by I wondered if I would actually feel any better or worse if I stopped taking them so, under GP guidance, I stopped. I have not taken them since, but I wouldn't have a problem going back on if I felt I needed to.
Yes, there are side effects listed, yes they do take about three weeks to kick in, yes you do need to take care coming off them and yes, they can sometimes help make life a lot more bearable.
