How about Bournemouth? great place , fantastic beaches , good gay scene and nightlife esp at "the triangle", The New Forest is within a short drive , Castles nearby include Lullworth castle , Hurst Castle etc . Easy access to Sothampton , Portsmouth , London etc . Cost of living isn't too bad either
