So, you may have noticed I have a line from a song from Avenue Q in my signature. I've listened to the CD for a while now and a couple of weeks ago I went down to London with my boyfriend and we finally saw Avenue Q.
It was awesome!
I saw Wicked recently too, and while the production quality of Wicked was much better (and in a bigger theatre), I felt that Avenue Q was just a much better production. The cast were amazing. It was in a smaller, more intimate theatre and even although there wasn't much audience interaction it felt like the audience were more involved somehow.
If you don't know much about Avenue Q, the quickest way to describe it is: Sesame Street for Adults.
It has a mixed live/puppet cast as Sesame Street does. It has these odd little cartoon links between scenes, or even just to help explain a scene and it is just really very very funny. I think because they touch on real life topics such as finding work/one's way in life (What do you do with a BA in English, Purpose, I Wish I Could Go Back to College), Racism (Everyone's a little bit racist), Porn (The Internet is for Porn), homosexuality (If you were Gay, My Girlfriend Who Lives in Canada), Relationships (Mix Tape, The More You Ruv Someone) and so on.
Anyway, if you are looking to see something in the theatre sometime, I would highly recommend this.
