Those who havn't gone to a Gaypride

Hi James,
At an event called 'Pride', it should be unfortunate to go with shame or fear, rather than, well, pride! Though I am sure it can be difficult to find the courage to go for the first time, I am sure you'll fine it for less scary than you imagine.
As Gareth says, many straight people go to pride too, so it wouldn't neccessarily identify you as gay. However, my experience of pride events is that there are so many different kinds of LGBT people from all walks of life, all being proud, celebratory and unified together- I am sure, spending time in such an environment, you will start to feel more confident and proud too mile:

The second issue is I dont really want to go on my own . Perhaps If I had a friend that wanted to go with me it would make it a lot easier . They look fantastc . Maybe next year I will go

I kind feel the same way there...I'm single, i wouldn't go alone (i'm shy and would be very scared/uncomfortable being there alone with all those 1000's of people around :eek: :eek: :eek LOL maybe if i had a friend who dragged me along i'd go

The one gay pride I went to had more TV cameras and reporters than people...that was in the mid 70s and yeah...we were all on the news but I didn't care about that.

I was just thinking about why I have never been to the San Francisco or any other pride parade since...and they went by my front door practically some of the time...I realized after thinking about it that gay pride day meant working my ass off for so many years...I did have to work in booths a few times over the years for the nightclub I worked for and I
hated it...too many people....never saw the parade though.

The one thing I would like to get through is the AIDS Quilt...I can never make it through the building or even for more than five minutes...I start crying and can't stop.

been very tempted to go, even on my own just to check it out - no doubt though regional tv cameras will be there and with my amazing bad luck i would be shown all over yorkshire tv - and no doubt be looking for a new job by the following day LOL got to love the firm i work for,,, although they would use some other excuse to let me go amazingly mile:

Maybe we could arrange a gayspeak , Gaypride weekend next year , would be great fun and the chance to make new friends , then no one would be on their own

we balloted for strike action 2 years ago over job cuts and wage rise (non offered), after they gave us a pay rise the same as our other sister factorys they still made job cuts and made redundant all union reps exept one - non won appeals as they used the excuse of downsizing the depts they worked in LOL - thats one example of the firm i work for :frown: - everyone who matters to me there knows anyway, they just keep it private from management,

I'd prob still go to a pride event anyway, lifes a bit too short to worry about if i could loose a job, it could mean the chance to take on a new challenge anyway

You could always go to one outside of the county you live in Matty , thats what I am going to do . For example Brighton and London gay prides look amazing . I would love to go to one and dont mind going with you if you dont want to go it alone

I would love to attend one but sadly there are none where I live...or near where I live considering the whole island thing. Haha. But I'll be attending college in the states next year so definitely gonna hit up one! :biggrin:

So many responses, did I stir the pot or what, hehe, This last one I help at the glbtq center booth as well as walked the entire pride festival support the others who were there. I understand the fear and it did take alot for my first one, but seeing all this people both allies, glbtq, and the courious getting along with all the games for the kids, and some games for the adults, and the peace which is always felt there it was great. SlipknotRIZZ, this is for everyone as the center is and I have many female friends as well, Jim
