Times Square is my favorite place in New York City. I love those big lights. The Great White Way is such an awesome place. I was there a year ago. I went to a concert there. It was pretty damn cool.
Just to see the neon lights, Baz, otherwise it's rather gaudy and tacky, very noisy and crowded... not a very nice place architecturally speaking... It's just the crossroads of Broadway and 42nd street and Seventh Avenue.... Nothing splendid about it. I've read recently, though, that the mayor is trying to block off traffic on a few hundred yards (about three blocks) to make it more pedestrian and tourist friendly... You can still buy the worst tourist junk there ... ALL made in China, by the way. Disappointing as everything is so expensive (for what it is) In French the expression that would apply would be Le Miroir Aux Alouettes. (the lark's mirror, what attracts such birds). I think the only really fun thing there would be to be able to see a musical or show there, which we didn't do.
But its Broadway, its the part of New York where the magic happened and still happens! The bright lights and busy streets. The New Yoikers busy about there business and the tourists snapping away. To eat a street dawg and say ive been there
