Are you shitting me? No thread about Sonic the Hedgehog?! Here it is! This is no definitive or comprehensive thread about this blue hedgehog. He is best documented elsewhere.

Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega Mega Drive/Genesis) was released on June 23, 1991. This game changed the video gaming world forever. This was pretty much a game like Super Mario Bros, except this was much faster. Gamers were looking for a fast-paced game and Sonic the Hedgehog was the game. A year later, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released. This time it featured the spin dash move and Sonic's sidekick Miles "Tails" Prower. After Sonic 2, Sonic 3 was released. This game had state of the art graphics and this was the introduction of Knuckles the Echidna. Sonic & Knuckles was released later and you were able to combine this game with Sonic 2 or Sonic 3 and you were able to play as the echidna.

Throughout the years, Sonic starred in several games. His look was revamped (pictured above) sometime in the late 1990's. A new generation of gamers got to know Sonic through Sonic Adventure. This was an outstanding game with amazing and state of the art graphics. It was released for the Dreamcast and it would later be on Nintendo's Game Cube. What?! Sega makes games for Nintendo now?

The inevitable happened... Sonic and Mario clashed. They appeared together in a game for the first time ever. This was a huge and historical moment. This was Sonic and Mario at the Summer Olympics (Wii). Then Sonic would appear as a secret character in Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii), which pretty much buried the Mario vs. Sonic hatchet.

That's pretty much it! My opinions on Sonic the Hedgehog now... yeah, he's the best video game character ever. He is a lot better than that spaghetti slurpin' S.O.B. Mario. Rolleyes I have played played most of the Sonic games released for the Sega Genesis. However I never got a chance to play the rest. Hopefully, I play those games with the one I love.

Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the best games of all time in the 90s, the golden age of Sega, AND a formative part of my youth. For most people it's playing football or sports, but as an arty geek most of my mates and my brother would be backing me up as Tails on Sonic II Smile

it's one of those things I wouldn't expect everyone to understand, nostalgia is a very personal thing. But the game had sub-sections, some mini games, and was one of the first ever games to get people doing 'speed runs'. There was a comic spin-off, some of which I wish I'd kept because they'd be collectors material -_- and TV cartoons. It really makes you wonder what sorta curse Sega had on them after the Dreamcast came out, their swansong console. Now they just make games, kinda fitting.

Sonic as a personality? I always thought he could be gay. He spends a curious amount of time with cute male foxes and saving small fluffy animals. Long may he reign! mario is just annoying... but damn he has some badass theme music

Ya know, I still like Mario. Mario makes me proud to be Italian-American. At some point, I wanted to become a plumber... just because of Mario! However, I love Sonic way much more. Sonic may also be Irish... Tongue Gay and Irish. Sonic is straight and Italian. I just thought of that just now. Well there is "Gay Luigi" and "Straight Mario" Grlaugh

I love Sonic when I was small. ( I even love a fast food chain in Texas call SONIC also).

I always think that Sonic is gay since he is a jock, masculine, .. but most of the time he spends with his mate Fox - Miles "Tails" Prower who is diffidently a soft spoken bottom Big Grin

Missed this thread?! Impossible!

Sonic was a HUGE part of my childhood, and still is a part of my life now.
Always cooler than Mario, I prefer the first 5(1,2,CD,3,Sonic and Knuckles) sonic games over any of the 2D Mario Ones.
But Mario STILL rocks (of courseWink)

Anyone else looking forward to Sonic 4?

And....i know its a bit spammy. But:

Some footage of Sonic 2. Played by me.

I remember playing Sonic 3 and I preferred Mario over it at the time. Rolleyes
The only time that I LOVED Sonic was when I played Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, I spent so much time raising Chaos too, there was so much to do and it was really fun!

I played Sonic Heroes and enjoyed that as well but I missed the Chao raising. Sad

I had the Sonic Advance games too and I liked those but they kind of made me motion sick somehow. >_>

I've considered getting the newer games (Shadow the Hedgehog, Riders, that werewolf one) but I heard that they were all pretty bad so I'm kinda just =| towards Sonic now.

I always prefered the 2D Sonic games. Though Adventure 1 and 2 were GREATConfusedmile:
Heros was OK.

And the only main console game i've played after that is the Wii version of Sonic: Unleashed(The one with the werehog). Day stages=GOOD Night stages(Where you play as the werehog)= BAD
So unleashed is ok....

But yeah, i'm too nervous to try Shadow the hedgehog or Sonic 06. But i hear they're both unimpresive.

The Sonic Advance Series and Sonic Rush are GREAT in my opinion. But i am yet to try Sonic Advance 3 and Sonic Rush Adventure. But i'm sure they must be at least good.Confusedmile:

Sonic 4 is....well.....well....

Best game since Sonic 3 and knuckles.
Maybe even as good as.......

The homming attack changes how the game is play significantly......but in a REALLY good way.
The physics are fine. Only two notable diffrences.
1)You exit spin dash when you fly of a ramp, not as much of a problem as it sounds.
2) When in a.....half pipe? You can't gain height while spin dashing(Like in the original Sonic in Spring Yard zone), you can only gain height while running. Which is no problem at all, just a diffrence and is only needed in Casino Street Zone.

Its fun, has a nice difficulty curve.
The special stages are ROCK HARD.(Or should i say Emerald hard?)
The boss battles are intuitive.

The graphics are vibrant detailed and.....very unique compared to games now day.(The last boss looks amazing.)
And i LOVE the music.

If i had to give it a rating, i'd say 9/10
A perfect score if it was a tad longer.
Of course though, this is all my opinion.Confusedmile:

Can't wait till episode 2:biggrin:
