John Gale "Johnny" Horton, was an American country music singer who was most famous for his semi-folk, so-called "saga songs" which launched the "historical ballad" craze of the late 1950s and early 1960s. With them, he had several major crossover hits, most notably in 1959 with "The Battle of New Orleans" which won the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording. The song won the Grammy Hall of Fame Award and in 2001 ranked No. 333 of the RIAA's "Songs of the Century". Horton was also a rockabilly singer, and was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

you've always got to love Willie Nelson. Thanks for that Mr. Steinbeck!

I remember when I was a little boy, we would go and visit my grandparents at the family Ranch in Wyoming. My brother, sister, and I would wake early, climb the stairs to where my grandmother would be cooking in the pre-dawn atmosphere of her kitchen. We would sit and talk with her, drinking hot apple cider and listening to one of the classics of country western music:

AND WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT COUNTRY MUSIC, YOU CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT TALKING ABOUT SOME OLD TIMEY BLUE GRASS MUSIC:

Im a HUGE country music fan and could post 100's of my favorite vids but I wont. Most of todays country is crap. I like older country music better like the 90s and before that. Todays stuff doesnt have the heart and soul the older stuff has.
