German Folk

Much popular in the 1920th .. but not sung complete.... because the King is searching for his Stable lad ... and the Stable lad his King
This here is complete... both are searching.....

Known german songs :

And this is not a War-Song as mostly thought .... its a Anti-War-Love-Song

Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds
And whose breath gives life to everyone,
Hear me.
I come to you as one of your many children;
I am weak... I am small...I need your wisdom
and your strength.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever
behold the red and purple sunsets.
Make my hands respect the things you have made,
and make my ears sharp so I may hear your voice.
Make me wise, so that I may understand what you
have taught my people and
The lessons you have hidden in each leaf and each rock.
I ask for wisdom and strength,
Not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able
to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me ever ready to come before you with
clean hands and a straight eye,
So as life fades away as a fading sunset,
My spirit may come to you without shame.

Thanks, Fenris--so you read that thread.

I enjoyed them all. But, I LOVE "Oh, sore Winter!" I made an mp3 and an mp4 of it. Thanks!
I'm stuck on the third verse:
Se is entflogen to disse Neeijahr (She has flown/gone till the new year)
en stadig Leevde, de mutt ik hebben,
en stadig Leevde, de mutt ik alltied hebben

I can't figure out the last two lines ^^^. Google translator is no help!

Ok, so here's a song I want to share with you. I love the imagery this song invokes.

I hope your tooth is better.

Yes ... the "sore Winter" is great Smile

The last two lines :

en stadig Leevde, de mutt ik hebben = eine beständige / feste Liebste, die muss ich haben = a stable / solid love, which I must have

de mutt ik alltied hebben = die muss ich zu jeder Zeit ( immer ) haben = which I must at all times (always) have

The song is in the dialect "low german"... normally not a dialect, its more a separate language

Low german

low german

high german

Thank you, I never would have gotten that in my translation!

Yes, I realized something was up (low German) when Google wasn't much help. Cry I'm working on verse 4. Confusedmile:

stadig - I couldn't figure out at all.

Take care of yourself.

I can't sleep, insomnia is such a nightmare! (intentionally bad pun, I know, but I'm beyond caring and I'm feeling grumpy)

I like visiting this thread though, its like being in the quiet zone on a busy train Confusedmile:

Here's my contribution for now; some spiritually haunting music by Dead Can Dance:
