Anyone familiar with the curent NYC club scene?

Okay, so I live near New York City, and I have never been out clubbing before in my life. (I've always been more of a hang-out-at-friend's-house-playing-videogames kind of guy. lot less Top 20 dance tracks, lot more DnD) I want to go out and experience the clubbing scene for myself, but I honestly don't know where to begin.

Is anybody familiar with the gay clubs in NYC? Any recommendation where I should start this little adventure? Any advice for going to clubs in general?

sorry, but i don't know (i live in the Philippines by the way, hehe). But one thing amazes me is the fact that i hear there are a lot of gay clubs in the US. brings me back to the time when my US Visa got denied. I wish i'd be given another chance to go to the US and finally, be on one of the famous gay clubs there.
