I don't know about us being brave for just getting on with life. Your childhood experience sounds as though it was very traumatic. I cannot imagine what nightmares I would have were I to have felt forced to stick a knife in someone. Anyone who forces unwanted sexual attention on someone else is guilty of a criminal act. I am not aware of knowing a single gay man who has shown any interest in children. The gay men I know are interested in men who are capable of understanding and returning their affections. I concur with the others who point out there is a huge difference between a gay man and a child-molester.
I don't see a problem with writing your story and making it sound authentic. Obviously you will want to temper this with whatever devices make the story work.

That is highly unfortunate situation and it was indeed a pedophile, not a homosexual who attacked you and your friend. Yes, I do remember Dean Corll. I used to read up about serial killers and other sadistic fiends like him. I really think you should write this story, let more and more people aware of this. You should also note how pedophiles and homosexuals are totally different. It makes me think of that propaganda film back in the early 60's called "Boys Beware" or whatever.

The 86 year old man who was such a visionary to me, the one I just wrote about in my last post, died in his sleep two hours later at 4:00 AM this morning. I had hoped to see him one last time. We don't always get what we want, do we.

We don't, unfortunately, and I'm sorry to hear about your friends passing too. I'm glad you had that recent opportunity to have that conversation with him though, you can hold on to that memory.

for your condolences on the lost of my dear friend. We live in a small town of about 20,000 and it seems like almost everyone is in mourning. This man was married for 69 years, had a 55 year perfect attendance award from the Lion's club, and was Mayor of our City for 25 years straight back when the population was about 800.
You are all so nice. I promise you the story will read truly and the facts will be clear.
Some of the things I want to help change in my lifetime:
Marijuana Laws
A way for Mexicans to obtain legal residence and not be deported after years and years of building our homes and raising our children.
Allow two committed people of any sex to express their love and devotion by getting legally married in any state of this union and to be eligible for the same benefits as any other married couple.
