Yes, they are desperate as more and more polls show a growing acceptance of gays and people in favor of same-sex marriages - which is good. But I still feel it's important to bring all this to light, mainly because as silly as this sounds to all of us, if enough kids are being taught this sort of thing, then we'll end up in a society where people are even more opposed to homosexuality than before.
There's a reason the folks that buy in the tea party movement are also orchestrating more home school.

I'm not sure about across the nation but I know in Minnesota, religious and anti-gay band/group You Can Run But You Cannot Hide performs in public schools - what if kids enjoy the performances, then listens to their anti-gay messages on radio etc? (this is also the group that a Target-supported politician had ties to and why some had called for a boycott of that retail chain despite their previous gay-friendly status)

Anyway... things are so much better now than they ever were, and I think it helps to have people like Ellen and shows like Glee and Modern Family, etc.. More and more young are coming out at an early age as a result, which in turn helps our youth realize that "hey my friend is still a good person", etc. But we can't let our guard down, because if we do we'll find that the tactics of the religious right have been left unfought.
Seeing how organizations like NOM could come into my state and get justices ousted just because of the same-sex ruling has shaken me... I don't always know what to do, especially when I don't have much in terms of personal resources, but I know there's a lot of good organizations out there to support as I can; gay-friendly politicians to vote for as I can; etc; and I'll keep trying to make a difference as I can here and there.
