Gay and racist?
#21
But how do people even get to that point of overcoming their irrational fears?

That works both ways...there has been alot of tension between the black and gay communities here in California over the years....recently with the Prop 8 vote.

From 2010 Pew Research:
http://pewforum.org/Gay-Marriage-and-Hom...pward.aspx

Whites are now evenly divided over gay marriage; in polls conducted this year, 44% of non-Hispanic whites favor allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally and 46% are opposed. In three surveys between August 2008 and August 2009, 39% of non-Hispanic whites favored same-sex marriage compared with 52% who were opposed.

By contrast, blacks continue to oppose same-sex marriage by a wide margin. In 2010, just 30% of non-Hispanic blacks favor gay marriage while 59% are opposed. From 2008 to 2009, 28% of blacks favored same-sex marriage and 62% were opposed (surveys were combined to increase sample size). Notably, the gender, age and education differences among the general public are mirrored among whites and blacks; however, there is far less support among all subgroups of blacks.

Overall, women continue to be more supportive of same-sex marriage than are men. Opinion among women is evenly divided: 46% favor same-sex marriage and 45% are opposed. Roughly four-in-ten (38%) men support allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally while 51% are opposed.

A majority (52%) of college graduates favor allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally. Support is much lower among those without a college degree – 46% with some college education and 34% with a high school education or less support same-sex marriage. But among these two education groups, more now favor same-sex marriage than did so over the past two years.

Americans living in the Midwest are now evenly split over same-sex marriage; 44% favor and 44% oppose allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally. Opinion has shifted substantially since 2008 and 2009 when only 36% in the Midwest favored this and 54% were opposed. Support also is up in the South but a majority (55%) continues to oppose allowing same-sex marriage. As was the case over the past two years, more in the Northeast favor than oppose allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally (49% vs. 41%). Those living in the West are about evenly divided in their opinion (47% favor, 45% oppose).

I agree, we should. However, unfortunately, gay people are only human with all the failings that entails.

Hi there,
I have often seen that in life people are like they are because of how their society has made them... Sexuality is an exception to this and the reason it is, is because I live in the gay capital of europe known as Brighton with 55,000 gay residents so therefore if this was based on learnt behaviour then all 250,000 residents would be big massive raving homos... I know racism isnt nice but history has a part to play... Alot of words used stem from times before our era for example the 1700's with black slavery... Irresspective of black or white you will always get one person do one thing or another and if you try to tell them its NOT RIGHT they will just tell you to FOXTROT OSCAR.. On this planet we are all born free and equal to each other... Our societies make us into people who we are and how we behave... Furthermore you can learn alot from someone in adult hood as those who are fulled by things like this didnt lead stable childhoods for example have loads of siblings and it would differ to someone who has had their mother or father interact with them more than others

Yes, I do know a lot of gay guys who are racist.
Yes, I did get the comment "Thanks, I am not interested in Asian".
And yes, they are racist.
However, they are racist not because they are gay. =)
I don't see how racism and being gay connected.

So if your only interested in men doesn't that make you sexist? Or if you only like fat people doesn't that make you fatist?

Lets not be harsh to the original poster for spitting his dummy out over bad treatment. If he can't moan about it here where can he?

I'd be interested in peoples definition of racism, as I was surprised what the dictionary definition is.

It always surprises me how biggoted some gay people are to bisexuals.

In my experience as a gay man i have come across gays which are racist sexist and prejudice.. I find that as gay you sort of know within your mind what your into and sometimes it can be a case that someone has reject someone who doesnt float their boat and they have got offended.. I have known people who have filed a complaint to the police and even got arrested... That person was me and all i did was tell some guy to foxtrot oscar and when he came upto me again and again i lost my temper and said foxtrot oscar and die for gods sake no is no and he went to the police and said i was going to kill him... I have on the other hand known people such as my ex landlord who was gay and not rent any rooms to females..
Men who dont like women forget one vitial thing in life... They were born from one they spent their childhood with at least one and their school was more than likely one which you interacted with females... I think alot of people in life get something small or something is said in a way its not ment to be and then a grudge builds up buit without being there to see and base evidence on factors we cant nessicary judge a book by its cover... There may be reasons behind the cover as to where this stems.. I know when i was younger my nan tried to raise me to be homophobic, racist, prejudice and alot more against alot of walks in life... However upon coming out as gay it took time for me to accept myself and other gay men but its all about re teaching yourself wrong to do right and if you dont do that and dont give people benfit of the doubt your end up in a life where your cutting out alot of society

I laughed so hard when I read this.

But, as for the topic at hand:

If you want to change the world, you have to change it by degrees, and it must occur at a grass roots level. I have come across gay people who are racist. They have been few and far between in my experience, but they are out there. And the pendulum swings the other way as well.

I remember a lesbian girl I knew from Venezuela who thought it was more PC to call all people of European decent, Anglo because not all white people were from the Caucus region and, there for, shouldn't be called Caucasian. "So", I asked here, "all white people are from England then since they should be called Anglo?" She didn't seem to like that question for some reason.

Honestly, if it bothers you that much, you should start educating people about it, and not the people who already agree with you. But, you are going to have to learn patients and compassion or you will only hurt your cause.
