Oh my gawd, before you guys ignore this one, just take a listen to it. From about :50s or so on is when the song starts.
It's a song we played alot here when I was young and is like one of my favourite non-english island song. It's not from Africa or whatever it may look like, it's actually Suriname, the Dutch Caribbean island. It's a crazy good song, especially since the singer is from Barbados and does not speak that language primarily.
In 1998, Square One released 'Faluma', spoken in the language of the Saamaka tribe in Suriname. The song went on to top the charts in almost every Caribbean territory, as well as on numerous radio stations throughout North America and Europe. Watch now as the Caribbean Queen Alison Hinds re-introduces 'Faluma,' to the world followed by her 2011 carnival release of Makelele!
