[COLOR="Purple"]I think it was TALKING HEADS that first made me aware of the pop/art/music scene (it could have been DEVO)...

When TALKING HEADS broke up I was really upset. I tried to like Byrne but never did. I am sure that he did some great stuff but I never heard it (hint hint)

this kinda reminds me of Wrong Way Up and a great collaboration of TALKING HEADS and Brian Eno

OMG, what memories of summer

Amazing that this was a hit (or was it?)!

I just wondered. Like you I preferred the songs he did with Talking Heads. I remember being highly amused reading a Tina Weymouth interview in which she revealed that whenever Eno and Byrne started talking, no one else understood what they were talking about.

I really wanted to like Devo (I thought Jocko Homo was a great single - let's face it there haven't been many western rock bands who have had hits in 7/8), but style seemed to distract from substance. I didn't much care for their version of Satisfaction, I preferred the Stones original. Actually I can't think of any Rolling Stones songs I prefer covered by others. There have been some great versions of Beatles songs though. Here are two of my favourites
The Flying Lizards - Money

clever and very funny Confusedmile:

&

Joe Cocker - With a Little Help From My Friends

[COLOR="Purple"]I think the HEADS finally broke up around my senior year in uni but before that I realized that every single song they came out with was perfect.

Maybe Devo is an American thing... they are from a town near my hometown - I believe they just came out with a new album and remastering and appeared on my fav NON news tv show (REDEYE - a shockingly irreverent talk show on FOX NEWS) and the host found them one of the great American bands???

I just love The Flying Lizards and their version of Money but find it the same as Devo - Satisfaction "clever and very funny"

Of course Joe Cocker is really amazing.

How bout a little Yoko Ono to destroy it all?

The Hollies - Quinn the Eskimo (Mighty Quinn)

The Hollies 1969 cover of Bob Dylan's Quinn the Eskimo. From the album Hollies Sing Dylan.

OR

Manfred Mann - Mighty Quinn

I prefer the Manfred Man one, but both are still good even that they are forty years old.
