What music are you listening to?
Another one of our French icons, Bourvil (André) who did a lot of funny films... but would occasionally sing funny songs too. Not as romantic as Montand's... of course probably earlier too (just listen to the orchestration)

Again, trying to impress the ladies.
"Ah, ce que vous êtes coureur!", she said (a pun about being a cyclist = un coureur, that likes to chase the ladies = un coureur)

And since we're talking about Bourvil (and De Funès), here's another video clip from La GRANDE VADROUILLE, which I still have to see, (it's this film that absolutely EVERYONE in France has seen, and that I still haven't seen, naughty MOI!). It's supposed to be hilarious. The scene is France during the second world war and the two characters played by Bourvil and De Funès are looking for an English infiltrated resistance leader.

The setting is a sauna, and I think it has slightly gay undertones that are really funny.... hehehe. It falso eatures Terry Thomas as "Big Moustache". lol.

The song is TEA for TWO (another one of my favourites)

French songs, I am told are always full of words and have rather a long story within. I'll see if I can find the lyrics and then post a translation for you, Matty. The original song was sung by a famous French singer who died all too young, Joe Dassin. He was very popular in the 70s.

There's everything you could want on the Champs Elysées... (Paris's best known avenue)

How about a karaoke?

Aux Champs Elysées
Je m' baladais sur l'avenue,
I was just walking around
le coeur ouvert à l'inconnu.
open-hearted, not knowing where I was headed
I just felt like saying: "Hello" to anyone (to any passer-by)
N'importe qui (et) ce fut toi,
Anyone just happened to be you
Et je t'ai dit n'importe quoi.
And I engaged in conversation saying any old thing that came into my head
All it took to tame you (wrap you up) was to talk to you.
Chorus
Aux Champs Elysées, aux Champs Elysées
On the Champs Elysées, on the Champs Elysées
In the sun, in the rain, at midday or at midnight
You can find anything you want on the Champs Elysées.
Tu m'as dit: "J'ai rendez-vous dans un sous-sol avec des fous
You said to me: " I have a date with some crazy people (musicians) in a basement.
They live with their guitars in their hands from dusk till dawn."
Alors je t'ai accompagnée,
So I accompanied you there
On a chanté, on a dansé,
We sang and we danced, we had so much fun
et on n'a même pas pensé à s'embrasser.
that we didn't even think of kissing.
Chorus
Last night we were just strangers, and this morning on the avenue (the Champs Elysées)
Two lovers stroll all entranced by their long night.
Et de l'Etoile à la Concorde,
From the Place de l'Etoile to the Place de la Concorde
Un orchestre à mille cordes:
It's like an orchestra of a thousand strings:
Tous les oiseaux du point du jour chantent l'amour.
All the birds of the break of dawn are singing our love.
Chorus

Now Playing:
Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl

-------------------------------------------------------
This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It's not what, I'm used to
Just wanna try you on
I'm curio-us for you
Caught my attention

I Kissed A Girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I Kissed A Girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I Kissed A Girl and I liked it
I liked it

No, I don't even know your name
It doesn't matter
Your my experimental game
Just human nature
It's not what, good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey

I Kissed A Girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I Kissed A Girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I Kissed A Girl and I liked it
I liked it

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain't no big deal, it's innocent

I Kissed A Girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I Kissed A Girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I Kissed A Girl and I liked it
I liked it

-------------------------------------------------------
What'd be funny is if a guy re-did this song & it went something like:

I Kissed A Guy and I liked it
The taste of his ?? chapstick
I Kissed A Guy just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Does mean I'm in love tonight
I Kissed A Guy and I liked it
I liked it
