I haven't heard this for years. I'd forgotten all about the Donovan quote on this track (starting just after 2:50 on the second part - "First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is"). This album (their second "studio" album - even though it was mixed with live performances) was the first release after Mickey Hart joined the band in 1967. Did they ever do a Latin percussion breakdown before he arrived? MH is now quite an authority on ethnic and roots percussion styles. I'm pretty sure his "Planet Drum" project was responsible for a proliferation of new age drum circles!
