I'd always heard that the Caribbean, in particular Jamaica, were among the most homophobic places on the planet ... what did you make of Kingston ?

Very homophobic! In fact when my mates & I just arrived at the airport,we heard that 2 gay tourists were assaulted outside the Kingston Craft Market.Kingston has the most beautiful beaches. So much cultural activities.Almost the whole population is people of colour.Given,it has it's 3rd world characteristics but it's really cool.

US - born and live there
Canada - Vancouver & Toronto
England - London & Birmingham
Scotland - Glasgow, Edinburgh, Prestwick, Stirling
Germany - Just about everywhere lived there for 3 years
France - Strausbourg
Netherlands - Amsterdam duh where else
Chech Republic - Prague
Kuwait - Kuwait City & several different camps
Iraq - Baghdad, Ramadi, Al Hit, Al Asad, TQ
Had a stopover in Belfast but didn't leave the airport so I don't really count that one. Best vacations were Scotland and England, just love to go there, Germany is fun place to live, France was not my favorite, Amsterdam was cool but kind of overwhelming, Prague was great, Vancouver is dirty, Toronto is a lot of fun, Kuwait sucks, Iraq sucks even more.

Yup, Europe ROCKS - most people like it here .

China is absolutely HUGE though isn't it, so I would think a great many Chinese Nationals could spend their whole lives exploring without ever seeing all the beauty that it has to offer (and never leaving their own country !!).
