anal fistula

Hi, I'm a new poster here and I was wondering if anyone has had an anal fistula. An anal fistula is an unnatural channel that forms between the inside of your rectum and the skin by the anal opening. It usually results from an anal abscess that has burst, with the pus draining out to the skin. I got one in December and I'm due to have an operation next month to get rid of it. They don't heal on their own and you have to have surgery to deal with it.

It's a very minor one, but it's pretty gross - it oozes pus and sometimes blood intermittently. I haven't had sex since I got it because I feel too self-conscious about it, and it would be really unpleasant for a partner, and also because the doctor I've been seeing has told me I have to abstain.

Has anyone here had one? And if so, what operation did you have, how was the recovery and how long did it take for the wound to heal? Also, did it affect your sex life at all? I like bottoming, but I'm afraid I won't be able to again because I'm worried I might get another one, even though they aren't necessarily caused through sex. I'm 38, which isn't that young, but too young to have my sex life ruined.

ive never had that pain before although i did bottomed before

i think its better to slow it down when your on bottom cause doing it too fast can result in major pain
so usually when i have sex i slow it down

Well, I usually go easy anyway, but the specialist said the fistula wasn't caused by sex. In my case, it's the direct result of an abscess that I still have. The abscess is actually inside, between the two sphincter muscles, and the fistula, which is like a tiny tube, leads off from it in one direction to the inside of my arse, and in the other to the skin. Anal abscesses are fairly common, and can be caused by any number of things. However, the result - at least while I wait for the surgery (which can leave you incontinent, by the way) - is that I can't have anal sex! Having said that, fistula can be caused directly by anal sex if the rectum gets torn.
